Sjoerd Goossen is a leadership trainer and coach at Jumbo Supermarkets. He supports, among others, store management teams, known as cadre of staff. Jumbo has been working with My Motivation Insights for 15 years and currently makes active use of the TeamScan alongside the individual colour profiles. This tool focuses on more effective team collaboration and provides direct, practical, and applicable insights at team level.

How did you introduce and implement the TeamScan?

We started using the TeamScan by adapting our training programmes. Previously, we offered My Motivation Insights colour profile sessions for management teams, aimed at getting to know and understand each other better. This year, we switched to the TeamScan, which places greater emphasis on more effective collaboration within teams.

What was the reason for this adjustment in your programme?

One of the reasons was the challenge of integrating our Jumbo Leadership Compass, which consists of six key themes, more effectively. With the TeamScan, we ask employees how their team aligns with this compass and how they can improve.

How do the teams experience the TeamScan?

The feedback from the teams has been very positive. They find the TeamScan clear and easy to follow. It speeds up the process of gaining insights and translating them into concrete action points, making it simple to identify what the team can do differently the very next day. Teams value the simplicity and the immediate applicability of the scan, which enables them to move quickly towards improvement.

What are some concrete solutions that have emerged from the TeamScan sessions?

For example, during a session, teams may decide to review their daily stand-ups by checking agreements and evaluating their impact. This helps to build greater trust and collaboration within the team.

What does the TeamScan add compared to sessions with individual colour profiles?

Essentially, it accelerates team conversations. People working in supermarkets who are often very practice-oriented, need a clear picture of the current situation and where they want to go as a team. While individual profiles take more time to help colleagues get to know each other, the TeamScan offers a faster way to identify and implement action points. It enables us to make concrete agreements within three hours, making it a powerful tool for teams to collaborate more effectively and achieve results.

What makes the TeamScan effective for you as a trainer?

The tool aligns perfectly with my approach as a trainer. I prefer to work with an action-oriented method, focusing on practical applications. The scan supports this by providing concrete steps forward. It enables me to get to the heart of the matter quickly and work with the team on practical action points.
